Kovalam Beach

Kovalam (means a grove of coconut trees), the beautiful natural beach, is the most popular tourist destination in Kerala. This internationally renowned beach is located at 13Km from Trivandrum main city.

Kovalam – is breathtakingly beautiful – a haven of peace and tranquility – the most sought after tourist destination in God’s own country.

Kovalam has 3 crescent shaped beaches, the larger one is called Light House beach for it’s 35 metre high light house located at the top of Kurumkal hillock. Second one is the famous “Hawah” beach, named after the topless bathing performed by womens decades ago. Topless bathing is prohibited now except in private beached owned by various resorts in the area. Samudra beach at the Northern side forms the 3rd beach of Kovalam but this section is not used by tourists. Samudra beach is used by the local fisherman for their trade activities.

Tourist Facilities & Attractions:

Large number of beach resorts in and around Kovalam is a popular tourist attraction, which offers multi cuisines, a wonderful night stay at the beach side resort, different forms of Ayurveda treatments, Yoga enviornments and other facilities. The sea port of Vizhinjam is about 3 km away and famous for its special varieties of fish, old Hindu temples, big churches and a mosque.
